Herb Garden at Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens

The Herb Society of Victoria approached the Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne in 1982 about re-establishing a medicinal herb garden on the original site from the late 19th century, created by Sir William Gilfoyle.  During the Herb Garden renovation in the mid 1980’s, HSOV members worked closely with the RBG, partially funding it and volunteering materials, plants, labour and knowledge.

RBG Herb Garden has plaques with the history, folklore and uses of herbs. With its wide variety of herbs, it is often a place where you will overhear people chatting of how they identify with the herbs.   Tucked away behind an arch, it is a hidden treasure worth exploring on any visit to the RBG.
